Overview

Julio Mena is a dynamic and business-minded lawyer focused on matters related to corporate immigration and global mobility. With more than a decade of experience and strong project management skills, Julio provides high-end immigration legal advice and innovative turn-key solutions to private and public entities and people wishing to start/acquire a business, invest or settle (temporarily and permanently) in Canada.

During his tenure at two prominent global law firms, Julio received recognition from top-tier legal rankings (Chambers Global and Legal 500 Canada) and acted as trusted advisor and go-to external immigration counsel for domestic and international companies operating in a broad spectrum of industries, as well as some of Canada’s fastest-growing emerging start-ups and Fortune 500 corporations.

Julio has significant experience transforming immigration processes and assisting domestic and international clients in a wide range of business immigration matters, including:

  • High-stakes business immigration

  • Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs), work permits and exemptions

  • Compliance audits/inspections

  • Immigration due diligence requirements in mergers and acquisitions (M&A)

  • Permanent residency and citizenship

  • Global mobility matters (particular experience in Latin-America, Europe and Asia)

More recently and in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, Julio advised major employers on global mobility matters and policy development, including new travel restrictions and quarantine rules, and developed practical and creative solutions in several complex immigration cases, some of which involved national interest considerations in critical infrastructure sectors.

Julio is regularly asked to speak or act as moderator at legal immigration conferences and events and to deliver in-house corporate training on best immigration and global mobility practices. Prior to beginning his law career, Julio completed a professional course in immigration (AEC) and worked for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the department of the Government of Canada responsible for immigration and citizenship matters. Julio is a member of the Executive Committee of the Immigration Law Section (Quebec Branch) of the Canadian Bar Association and sits in the Board of Directors of the Quebec & Latin-America Chamber of Commerce (QUÉtAL).
